KADS Charity Event for KAR

KADS (Kyrenia Amateur Dramatic Society) is staging a murder mystery in aid of KAR (Kyrenia Animal Rescue). The details are listed above on the poster which I designed :) I am part of KADS and also a supporter of KAR. So, I encourage one and all to come and support our little effort to raise money for the lovely cats and dogs. I am proud to say that I have had the opportunity to work for this wonderful project. I know its been a while since the books were published, but it has and will remain fresh in my mind forever the memories. I have been appreciated for my hardwork for the design and the layout. This is the first time a series has been published on the works of the Turkish Cypriot literature and it compromises of eight volumes in a series. The collection is produced under the supervision of Dr. Mehmet Yashin.

Times are changing fast...

I think it is time to update my blog which I have been neglecting for a while. But I have my reasons as my work life takes most of my time :) So, what better way could I find to renew my blog other than to talk about time and it's importance. Recently, I read on BBC about a painting and its importance. The Science Museum is investigating the 450 year old potrait, thought to be of Cosimo I de Medici, Duke of Florence who is holding a golden timepiece. They believe it to be one of the first timepieces. Sounds very interesting, atleast to me.

Time is precious and so is the solving of Cyprus problem. I am very happy to know the two leaders on either side are using it to their advantage :)

In Nicosia..

I was in Nicosia with my friends and were visiting a cafe near Selimiye Mosque. I have been there before, but this time I was enchanted by its beauty. The impressive combination of gothic and islamic architecture is brilliant. A perfect marriage between two religions, does not look odd. Infact, it brings harmony and ambiance. How I wish, politicians on the both sides of the border feel the same and bring a solution to the island soon to reap the benefits of peace. Hope and pray....

Stop Wasting Water...

It is a sorry state to watch in many houses the way taps are run for long number of minutes to get hot water. Such acts are shameful on humanity when water is so precious. I always fill it up in a bucket and then use it on my plants and trees to nourish them. Would you waste food that way! The same way, water is food for the plants and trees....so please don't waste water. Please use as little as possible and don't waste it, especially running tap for hot water. Every little effort contributes to preserve Earth and protect Nature.

Let's Save Water and Save the World for us and for our children

My Backyard...

I just love my backyard in springtime as this wonderful creeper begins to blossom with bright pink tiny flowers and makes an impact in my garden. I am yet to find out the name of this plant. Anybody knows! Till it lasts, I am going to enjoy the nature's wonder thoroughly. Hope you too will enjoy it.

Time to Wake Up....

Hey Cypriots,
It's been a while since i wrote something for my blog. And as winter has left us to bask in Spring and awaiting Summer, I feel the need to be awake like a polar bear from hibernation. So the exciting news of the month was opening of Ledra Street after many years. Good to know among all the problems plagued by this island, signs of unity show up in its own tiny way. Lets see what happens next.

Meanwhile, I will be on the hunt for more exciting news and keep my blog updated..promise!

What is happening with Cyprus!

July is here and everything seems to be centered around Summer - beaches, cafes, bars, etc. And not to forget the heatwave, which was too much to bear for most of us in Cyprus. Thank God, it is receding and hopefully will stay that way! Apart from that not much is happening i guess! A festival here and there to keep the locals and tourists happy. But nobody seems to battle the Global Warming phenomenon in North Cyprus! There is an urgent need to do something and as i suggested on NorthCyprus44 Forum board, planting trees is the best way to combat or help the situation. The amount of interest generated from this topic is amazing. Time is precious and we need this world, let us save it from destruction.

My life is like a lamp shade, it glows when i am happy and fades when i am sad. It shines when i am enthusiastic and it darkens when i am bored. It flickers when i am troubled and brightens when i achieve. It burns when i am angry and cools when i am calm. It shakes when i am hyper and stands still when i am dull. It shuts off when i sleep and turns on when i awake. It vibrates when i am disturbed and sways when i am content. It relaxes when i am smiling and sparkles when i dance. It dances when i am over joyed and whispers when i am silent. My life is like a lamp shade.....

As the lover of history, I was very keen to re-visit the Sanctuary of Pigadhes near Camlibel village and to my surprise it was in a very bad state. The sign was down, the gates were broken and the whole area was full of weeds. It is such a shame that such a historical place has been left to the nature and not being bothered about. I wish the archaeological department would do something quick before it totally gets destroyed and lost. I just wish next time I visit the place it is different!

And anyone visiting North Cyprus, especially the ones who are interested in history, please make it a point to visit Sanctuary of Pigadhes.

The weather has been a great topic to talk about among ourselves as it is obviously changed a lot during the few years. Everyone of us knew what would happen every year regarding weather and knew how to be prepared. But now it is like a human being's disorganised world and who's created this mayhem with weather...ofcourse the humans. And i guess the world filled with humans are begining to realise {typical nature of human being - too late} what they have done.

So let us not be too ambitious with what we have created in this world and burn our wings just like Icarus did when he flew too close towards sun and burnt his wings to plunge to death.

If you got my point, all you out there who think it is not your problem, think twice! We have only got one world.

Help save the Olive Trees of Cyprus

What do we do when we are offered 40 trees to take away and we only have homes available for just 8 of them? Some of these are taken to the Sanctuary at our expense and roughly 10% of the trees we save, for one reason or another, end up there.
But moving trees costs money.

Save water as it is precious in Cyprus

There is a new initiative by the North Cyprus government to save water as it seems the summer is going to be difficult with not much rainfall this winter. The new campaign is to urge people to use water economically and by doing so we save so much. The new leaflets and stickers are distributed free and give us details how to save water in many ways possible. I was startled to see how much water can be saved by implementing simple methods through this leaflet.

Please collect one and read through to follow those methods to save water as it is collective measures that will help to save water for the future. I am sure nobody wants to run out of water!

Boys becoming Men.........

Here we see boys of North Cyprus (we can call them Turkish Cypriots too) becoming real men by posing almost nude for a cause. And that cause is to protest against the embargoes imposed by FIFA on Turkish Cypriot footballers. Since North Cyprus is not legally recognised by the world (which I think is unfair), all the organisations including FIFA refuse these budding footballers to play with any other country's footballers. These footballers are protesting through this unique campaign and they also have released a calender to help their cause. So all you folks out their who think it is unfair, support this cause by visiting their site www.embargoed.org/.

eye work for people's eyes...

so, finally i get to see my work being appreciated by the world's eyes. i was in a transport company's office and there on the wall i saw my photograph being used as calender for one of the major petroleum company from Turkey. i am pleased that my photograph of Kyrenia harbour is pleasing all the people in Cyprus. It comes down atlast.....the last dividing capital of the world

The Ledra wall came down last week and guess what, the last dividing capital of the world dose not exist anymore..or you think so!

Both sides are yet to arrive on a solution for the public to cross this area yet. But it is a good step for the future and hope all goes well at the end of the day.

What a treat to the Cypriots and all those peace loving people around the world who care about Cyprus including EYE.
